Margaret Thatcher becomes Joint Secretary to Ministry of Pensions
London: John Adam Street: Margaret Thatcher appointed to new
job as Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Pensions: Margaret
Thatcher interview by John Barry: she is happy to have a definite
job to get down to rather than a roving brief: will need even more
organisation and method at home: she is a great believer in those
two things: can only do it because she lives within 35 minutes of
Westminster and has an excellent Nanny-housekeeper: sees children
every morning: her husband is away on business a lot: had never
thought of having any appointment, certainly not so soon: the new
appointment offers scope for helping people and for seeing the
financial side of the scheme is sound: has had pleasant 1st day:
met various heads of departments and will be given an enormous
amount of work for the weekend.
