John Major at Lotus/Social Charter
Prime Minister John Major defends his call
or a multi-speed Europe insisting that Britain must stand
apart from the Social Chapter which he described as a licence
to mess up the British recovery. Labour and the Liberal Democrats
say he is pandering to Tory Euro-sceptics saying a two speed
Europe would mean a weak Britain. Euro-sceptic Norman Tebbit
has welcomed the multi-speed approach.
