Clement Attlee on resignation as Labour leader
Clement Attlee MP (resigned Labour Party Leader) interviewed
- I've now left the Commons after 33 years - quite a break
because the Commons is great companionship and I shall miss
the constant contact with my friends - though I'll be able
to see them in Another Place (the House of Lords) / Many
dramatic incidents over the years / I can remember the hard
time we had when we (the party) were reduced to under 50
seats / I remember the pleasure when I first took my seat on
the Treasury bench with a majority behind me ..
Cutaway of Robin Day (reporter) asking question;
Attlee continues - don't have misgivings about going to the
Lords - will have to find out about the style of oratory
there before I make a speech there / haven't discussed title
I might take yet / hope my successor will receive the same
