Zimbabwe Elections, 1980
In April 1980 Southern Rhodesia became the Republic of Zimbabwe after independence and the end of white minority rule. ZANU PF, led by Robert Mugabe, won the first general election of Zimbabwe.
The capital, Salisbury, was renamed Harare.
