World Trade Center Attacks 2001
On September 11th 2001 the world watched in horror as pictures were shown of planes flying into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The attacks (that became known as 9/11) were a series of co-ordinated suicide attacks by 19 terrorists affiliated to al-Qaeda. Four airliners were hijacked – two flown into the World Trade Center buildings, one flew into the Pentagon, and a fourth crashed into a field n Pennsylvania.
Almost 3,000 people died in the attacks. Most of them died when the twin towers collapsed.
