Hollywood Remembers William Holden and Lee Marvin
William Holden’s most challenging roles were as a psychotic killer in The Dark Past (1949), a writer-gigolo in Sunset Boulevard (1950) and a tutor in Born Yesterday (1951). In 1953 he won an Oscar for his performance in Billy Wilder’s Stalag 17.
In 1951 Lee Marvin won a part in Billy Budd on Broadway and later that year, made his screen debut. His imposing height and rugged appeal led to successive castings in crime movies and Westerns. He starred in the TV series M Squad (1957-1960) and won an Oscar for his role in Cat Ballou (1965).
