Vietnam War Ends, 1975
The Vietnam conflict ended in 1975. Before the end, Saigon saw dramatic airlifts from the US embassy as well as people fighting to get aboard ships departing Vietnam. There was also chaos at Danang airport and planes took off under gunfire.
South Vietnamese President Thieu resigned declaring that the United States had betrayed his country. The control of the government in the south was left in the hands of General Duong Van Minh.
The conflict cost the lives of nearly a million and a half people with another three million wounded.
