USA/USSR Arms Treaty Signing 1987
On December 8th 1987, The President Ronald Reagan, and the Soviet Leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, signed a treaty in Washington D.C. to eliminate nuclear and conventional ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with intermediate ranges by June 1st 1991.
The treaty covers any missile with a range of between 300-3400 miles. The negotiations went on throughout 1987, aided by the decision in August by West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl to unilaterally remove the joint US-West German Pershing missiles.
