The first Peter Pan was made in 1924, reprised as an animated version by Walt Disney in 1953 and as Hook by Stephen Spielberg in 1991. Ramon Novarro starred in The Road to Romance in 1927, whilst action-man extraordinaire Errol Flynn played in three pirate films, in Captain Blood (1935), The Sea Hawk (1940) and The Master of Ballantrae (1953).
Horror genre pirate films were also made by Hammer Productions, including The Devil Ship Pirates (1963) starring Christopher Lee. Burt Lancaster, Buster Crabbe and Stewart Granger also played pirates in their careers.
