Hollywood Remembers Sylvester Stallone
Sly Stallone was always a survivor, raised in a tough neighbourhood of New York. He spent several years in care and had difficulty in settling at school; he was kicked out of a total of 14. Stallone won a scholarship for the American School in Switzerland before going to the University of Miami to study drama.
In 1976, Stallone was broke and so turned to screenwriting, creating the character of Rocky. In just three days' writing he had a script, which he sold on the condition that he played the lead. Rocky, released in 1976, was a huge hit, winning three Oscars for best director, best film and best editing.
