Hollywood Remembers Rita Hayworth
Rita Hayworth, cousin of Ginger Rogers, was one of Hollywood's most glamorous leading ladies and a favourite Army pin up. She appeared opposite Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly in musicals, and played straight roles as the fiery seductress in Blood and Sand (1941) and love goddess in Gilda (1946).
So popular was her status as a bombshell that a photo of her was pasted on to the tip of a nuclear missile used to hit Bikini. She fell in love with actor Victor Mature in 1943, divorced her first husband, and despite announcing her engagement to Mature, wed Orson Welles instead in a whirlwind romance.
