Hollywood Remembers Richard Burton
Richard Burton was the son of a Welsh coal miner, the twelfth of thirteen children. Against all odds he won a scholarship to attend Oxford University, but after a brief stint in a Liverpool repertory, he chose the actor's life instead.
Although he won seven nominations for Academy Awards, Richard Burton was never awarded the Oscar. Appearing with regularity in the gossip pages, both Burton and Taylor's work was undermined. After an on-off marriage, which lasted for several years, they finally divorced in 1976.
