Hollywood Remembers Maureen O'Hara

Born in Ireland, Maureen O'Hara was a fiery red-haired beauty. She made her way up through the ranks at Dublin's Abbey School and with the Abbey Players, before moving to London and making her film debut in 1938.

Charles Laughton and Erich Pommer signed her in 1939 and she took off for Hollywood and stardom. Laughton gave her the role of Esmerelda in his version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Subsequently she played the lead in John Ford's How Green Was My Valley. Her striking red hair and good looks made her a popular choice as leading lady throughout the 1940s and 1950s.
