Hollywood Remembers Marlene Dietrich

Born in Berlin in 1901, Maria Dietrich's finest films include Morocco  (1930), Shanghai Express (1932), Blonde Venus (1932), The Devil is a Woman (1935) and Destry Rides Again (1939).

In 1937 Dietrich was requested to return to German cinema and although her husband and daughter were in Berlin, she refused and her films were banned in Germany. Dietrich made the US her home and during world war two entertained American troops and made anti-Nazi broadcasts in German. Christened the 'world's most glamorous grandmother' in 1948, she turned to cabaret and became a huge singing star.
