Labour Wins UK Elections, 1997

In the British elections of 1997 Labour, under new Prime Minister Tony Blair, won a landslide victory putting the Conservative party in opposition for the first time in 18 years.

Former Prime Minister John Major announced he was stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party following Labour’s biggest ever election victory.
