Kurds Fight For Independence 1979
During 1979 the Kurds, who live in Iraq, Iran and Turkey, continued t fight for independence. They were dealt a blow when exiled nationalist leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Mustafa Barzani, died in exile in the USA on March 3rd.
In June Saddam Hussein became president of Iraq, after engineering the resignation of President Hassan al-Bakr.
