Hollywood Remembers Katherine Hepburn
Famous for her strong opinions and her outspokenness, Katherine Hepburn seemed to court both trouble and success - she won three Oscars and several more nominations over her career - as well as critical and public acclaim.
Her arrival in Hollywood perplexed those who played by the rules: she wore slacks, eschewed glamour, refused interviews and kept her private life strictly so. After being rejected for the role of Scarlett in Gone With the Wind, she won a part in the stage play The Philadelphia Story for which she waived her salary for a cut in the profits and film rights.
