Hollywood Remembers Joanne Woodward
Joanne Woodward was born in Georgia, the daughter of a publishing executive. She understudied on Broadway and made her screen debut in 1955, winning an Oscar two years later for her performance in The Three Faces of Eve.
Since her marriage to Paul Newman in 1958, she has appeared in many films directed by him. In Rachel, Rachel (1968) she earned an Oscar nomination and won the best actress award at Cannes for The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (1972) also directed by her husband.
