Hong Kong Handover to China 1997

On June 30th the Hong Kong night sky exploded into colour as a spectacular firework display over Victoria Harbour to mark the end of a century and a half of British Rule, and the territory’s reunification with the rest of China. The fireworks began straight after a British farewell ceremony attended by Britain’s Prince Wales, Governor Chris Patten, 9,000 guests and 1,000 journalists.

There were celebrations all over China, where crowds flocked into the streets to celebrate the end of 156 years of colonialism.
