Hollywood Remembers Bob Hope
Though born in England, Bob Hope grew up in the US. Hope won a Chaplin imitation contest at the tender age of 10 and worked throughout his teens as a soda jerk, newsboy and briefly a boxer, before entering vaudeville.
The last of a generation, Hope is one of Hollywood's favourite stars. A wisecracking comedian, he made his name in entertainment for 40 years. Alongside Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour he played the hapless hero in the popular Road film series, always losing the girl to the crooning Crosby.
