Gulf War 1991
Following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990 the United Nation passed a resolution demanding that Iraq withdraw. The deadline passed on January 15th 1991 and Iraq ignored the ultimatum. On January 17th Operation Desert Storm was launched, with air attacks on Iraq and Kuwait.
On February 28th Iraq accepted all UN resolutions. UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar met with Saddam Hussein and discussed the timetable for the withdrawal of Iraq troops from Kuwait. Iraq agreed to UN terms for a permanent cease-fire in April 1991.
