Hollywood Remembers Gregory Peck
Gregory Peck entered medical school at the prestigious University of California at Berkeley. However, he dropped out after catching the acting bug and left for New York. He made his Broadway debut in 1942 with The Morning Star, moving to Hollywood in 1944. Peck, barred from military service because of a spinal injury dating back to a school rowing competition, rose rapidly to stardom in the absence of many other leading men involved in America's war effort.
Peck won Oscar nominations for The Yearling (1946), Gentleman's Agreement (1947), Twelve O'Clock High (1950) and an Oscar for To Kill a Mocking Bird (1962).
