100 Years Of Horror: Giants and Dinosaurs

Since the dawn of cinema a fascination with dinosaurs and other giants has captured Hollywood audiences and studios alike. Gertie the Dinosaur emerged in 1915, the work of animator Winsor McCay and Willis O’Brien’s first monster picture, The Lost World was released in 1925, and featured a giant brontosaurus laying waste to London. Using his experience on this film O’Brien created an even more frightening image with his King Kong, released in 1933.

Stephen Spielberg brought dinosaurs back in the 1990s in Jurassic Park and The Lost World, along with terrific special effects, thanks to the work of Phil Tippett.
