Hollywood Remembers Gary Cooper
Gary Cooper was born in Montana to English parents. Although he went to school in England, he returned to the US where he attended agricultural college. There he developed his riding skills, which would prove useful for his early career in Westerns.
In 1926, he won second lead in The Winning of Barbara Worth, which became a big box-office hit. Although generally more appreciated by his audiences than the critics, Cooper won Oscar nominations for Mr Deeds Goes to Town (1936) and The Pride of the Yankees (1942) and Oscars for Sergeant York (1941) and High Noon (1952).
