After a brief marriage to Artie Shaw, Ava Gardner courted Frank Sinatra in a well-publicised relationship. Their nuptials were stormy and relatively short-lived, marrying in 1951, separating in 1954 and divorcing three years later.
After their divorce Ava Gardner left Hollywood for Europe to play with the jet-set in Madrid, and had a very public affair with a bullfighter. Sinatra enjoyed a string of glamorous lovers before marrying Mia Farrow in 1966.
