Falklands War 1982
On March 31st 1982 a group of Argentinean scrap-metal merchants landed illegally on the island of South Georgia and hoisted the Argentinean flag. The British government promptly despatched the submarine Spartan to the South Atlantic.
On April 2nd Argentina invaded and captured the Falkland Islands, overcoming a contingent of Royal Marines guarding the capital, Port Stanley. On April 5th a Royal Navy Task Force set sail from Britain and Gibraltar. On June 14th Argentina surrendered as British troops broke the last ring of defences around Port Stanley.
