Hollywood Remembers Doris Day

After stints as a vocalist for the Bing Crosby and Les Brown Bands, Doris Day started a solo career in her early 20s. Replacing lead Betty Hutton at the last minute, she shot to fame with her first film Romance on the High Seas (1948).

The epitome of the girl-next-door, she was idealised by every 50s parent and became the highest paid actress in Hollywood during the decade. Her immaculate appearance and integrity intact, she starred in a string of bedroom farces opposite Rock Hudson in Pyjama Game (1957), Pillow Talk (1959) - for which she was Oscar-nominated - and Send Me No Flowers! (1963).
