Cambodia, Khmer Rouge Takes Control 1975

In 1975, the civil war in Cambodia ended when the government of Lon Nol surrendered to the Communist Party of Kampuchea (Khmer Rouge) as Phnom Penh fell on April 17th.

After its victory, the Khmer Rouge ordered the evacuation of all cities and towns, sending the entire urban population to work as farmers in the countryside.
