Bill Clinton Whitewater Affair, 1996
In 1996 Bill and Hillary Clinton were fighting controversy over the Whitewater affair, a failed real estate business venture in the 1970s and 1980s. As part of the Whitewater Development Corporation, the Clintons were involved with associates, Jim and Susan McDougal.
An Investigation resulted in the conviction of the McDougals for their role, but the Clintons themselves were never charged. The US Senate Whitewater Committee ended its work in June bitterly divided on whether President Clinton and his wife were implicated in the complex Whitewater affair.
