Hollywood Remembers Barbara Stanwyck

Barbara Stanwyck became an orphan when she was four and was brought up by her older sister. At 15 she entered the Ziegfield Follies in the chorus-line and gradually made her name, earning a small part in a silent film.

In 1928 Stanwyck married a leading light in vaudeville and she and her husband moved to Hollywood where they both signed contracts. Known as a hard-working pro and nominated for Oscars four times during her career, Stanwyck impressed her employers and became a dependably no-nonsense leading lady in films such as, Stella Dallas, The Lady Eve, Ball of Fire and Double Indemnity.
