Hollywood Couples: Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer
Whilst playing in Odine on Broadway, Audrey Hepburn met and fell in love with her co-star Mel Ferrer. Winning a Tony for her performance in 1954, they married later that year, playing opposite each other one last time in King Vidor’s War and Peace of 1956: she as Natasha, he as Andrei.
Mel Ferrer dropped out of Princeton to pursue a career in acting, appearing on Broadway in 1938, first as a dancer, then an actor. His first low-budget film for Columbia led to an assistant director role with John Ford on The Fugitive in 1947 and his screen debut in 1949.
