Apollo 16 Moon Landing, 1972
Lunar landings continued in 1972 with Apollo 16 and 17 continuing the work of their predecessors, collecting data and samples.
Despite a malfunction in the Command Module which almost aborted the lunar landing, Apollo 16 landed successfully in the Descartes Highlands on April 21, the fifth manned Apollo mission to land on the Moon.
Launching on December 7 1972 Apollo 17 was the sixth and final lunar landing mission of the Apollo Space program.
